Plate Nº II
Seven Samurai
七人の侍
Shichinin no Samurai
Notes
Kurosawa's mud, his rain, his men running toward the threat instead of from it. Every frame engineered for kinetic clarity, yet the film's longest passages are quiet — Kanbei shaving his head, Katsushirō learning to listen. The image of the village at dawn, half-defended, remains one of cinema's great compositions.
