Notes

Shimizu's continuation, again with Noda — the second half of the diptych, released February 1932. Yumie's wedding at the Kōshien hotel inaugurates the marriage as a long deliberate ruin: separate chambers, lavish gratuities, monthly remittances to the asylum and to her husband's former mistress. What survives the press scandal is the journal intime; what survives the journal is the daughter-in-law's last refusal.
